Sometimes people throw away the most beautiful things! Often it is an old newspaper, paper that has been written on, or used cardboard, which can serve as an excellent basis for further drawings and paintings. We will take a look into the wastebasket, inspect and view our found objects: Can one word on a piece of cardboard become a whole sentence? Perhaps a brush can be used to create a big house or a small head out of a simple line?

Artists also have to train. Like athletes, they practice and develop different methods to get better. The Berlin painter K. H. Hödicke calls these “trial runs” in which he applies color to paper quickly without thinking for a long time and looks to see which motif emerges. Hödicke’s recipe: “You put a color in the picture and it determines how it will continue.” How much concentration and creativity do we need to further develop a spontaneously created motif? Which stroke “hits home” and when is the picture finished? Boldly go on, and color and form will appear in the picture!

The Dark and the Light by Kerstin Hau and Julie Völk (in German)

Please register in ticket shop

Like photography, life has dark and bright sides. This is the story of an unusual friendship, which is staged as picture cinema. The unkempt one with shaggy fur lives in a dark country and is sad because he has lost his home. The delicate one, on the other hand, lives in a world of light and colors, but is curious about the dark side next door. Cautiously, they take the first steps into each other’s strange world. Julie Völk deploys a technique from the early days of photography for illustration: cyanotype. The children then use this method to conjure up their own magical blue and white pictures.

The participating children bring along an object that means something to them. What does the thing tell us about its origin, its “life,” or even about its owner? Like a museum piece, it is photographed and its history is written down and then shown in a small exhibition in the studio like an exhibit.
